折り鶴は、日本では古くから親しまれてきた伝統的な遊びであると同時に、戦争への哀悼や震災からの復興を経て、平和への願いや祈り、希望を象徴する存在として、多くの人々の記憶の中に受け継がれてきました。

小野川直樹は、これまでそうした折り鶴が内包する意味を作品に重ねながら制作を続けてきました。しかし、本展「Narrative」では、その意味は一つの象徴として提示されるのではなく、見る者との関係の中で新たな意味を帯びるものとして扱われています。

タイトルが示す「Narrative」は、作家が語るひとつの物語ではなく、それぞれの経験や記憶、解釈によって紡がれていく物語を指しています。作品は固定されたメッセージを語るのではなく、鑑賞者との対話の中で、その都度異なる意味を獲得していきます。

折り鶴という限られたモチーフの中で展開される色彩や、それを支える枝や幹のような構造。それらは意図的に組み立てられたものであると同時に、制作の過程で生まれる迷いや試行の痕跡も感じさせます。

無数の折り鶴が積み重なることで生まれる造形は、まず視覚的な美しさとして私たちの前に現れます。しかし、その美しさの奥には、容易には言葉にならない何かが静かに横たわっています。本展は、その余白の中に、それぞれの「Narrative」が紡がれていく可能性を示しています。

The origami crane has long been cherished in Japan as a traditional pastime. At the same time, through the nation's experiences of war and recovery from natural disasters, it has come to embody prayers for peace, hope, and remembrance, becoming a symbol deeply embedded in the collective memory of many people.

Throughout his practice, Naoki Onogawa has created works that draw upon these layered meanings of the origami crane. In Narrative, however, the crane is no longer presented as a fixed symbol. Instead, its meaning is shaped anew through the relationship between the work and each individual viewer.

The exhibition title, Narrative, does not refer to a single story told by the artist. Rather, it points to stories that are formed through each viewer's own experiences, memories, and interpretations. The works do not communicate a predetermined message; instead, they continually acquire new meanings through the act of viewing and the dialogue that unfolds between the artwork and its audience.

Within the limited motif of the origami crane, Onogawa explores a wide range of expression through color and through structural elements that resemble branches and tree trunks, supporting each composition. While carefully constructed, these forms also retain traces of uncertainty and experimentation that emerge through the process of making.

The forms created through the accumulation of countless origami cranes first present themselves through their visual beauty. Yet beneath that beauty lies something that resists easy definition. Within that space of openness, the exhibition suggests the possibility for each viewer's own narrative to unfold.
